Workshop zone
The highlight of Morioka Handicraft Village is this workshop zone. There are over 14 workshops lined up. Top craftsmen work there every day. You can also actually listen to the story. Hands-on classes on making things are also held.
Handmade classes are held for making chagu chagu umako, pottery, and straw crafts. One of the most popular classes is the food class. You can observe and experience the manufacturing process at ``Pyonpyonsha,'' which is known as a famous Morioka cold noodle restaurant. The Nambu Senbei workshop is something that even children can easily experience. You can enjoy the rice crackers that you baked yourself while still piping hot.
Nanbu rice crackers are characterized by the fact that they contain peanuts, which give off a fragrant smell when they are baked. It is baked using Nanbu ironware, and many children are surprised by its weight.
What's great about this workshop zone is that it's not a showpiece like a theme park. Each workshop originally operated in various locations in Iwate. However, environmental issues hindered their creative activities, so they gathered at this handmade village.
Each workshop works hand in hand to create a good environment in which they spend their living working. That's why you can see the true craftsmanship, not just a theme park project.
Nambu Magariya Zone
Nambu Magariya is a traditional residence that has existed in Morioka since ancient times. This is the zone where this residence was relocated. The handcrafted village's curved houses are said to have been built 200 years ago. Horses were essential to agriculture at the time. The unique feature of Nambu Mageriya is that the stable and residence are integrated.
In this zone, you can see the buildings and tools used for farming in their original state.
