[Pensées] Miyagi Prefecture's two biggest bakeries clash! Who will win the salted bread showdown?! [Birthday]
table of contents
If you're looking for two of Miyagi Prefecture's most representative bakeries, it's"Panse"and"Birthday."
If you live in Sendai, you've probably been to them.
"Panse" and "Birthday" offer creative breads themed around Miyagi's local specialties, and are loved by people both inside and outside the
prefecture. Not only are their creative breads original, but their appearance, aroma, and taste are all top-notch.
But which of these two bakeries makes the tastier bread?
In this article, we actually tasted the bread from "Panse" and "Birthday" to compare which one is better!
We'll announce the bread we'll use for comparison!
Even when trying to compare which bread tastes better, it's impossible to do so by eating different breads.
However, since bakeries don't typically have the same menu, choosing breads to use for comparison proved difficult.
After much thought, I decided on "salt bread."
If you want to compare the deliciousness of the bread itself without relying on toppings or seasonings, simple is best.
Moreover, while salt bread is simple, many bakeries create their own unique flavors, making it the perfect subject for comparing which is tastier.
That's why we decided on the theme of this match to be salted bread!
Stone Oven Bakery Pensee

Founded in 1989 (Heisei 1),
"Panse" is a bakery based in Sendai that continues to make bread beloved by locals.
"Handmade," "homemade," and a commitment to customer satisfaction by baking multiple times a day so that customers can always enjoy freshly baked goods—
this is the secret to our beloved local bakery!
Pensee Salt Bread

Panse's salt bread is appealing for its fragrant, golden-brown color.
It has a texture similar to a softer version of a hot dog bun or a table butter roll.
When you break it in half, the fluffy bread dough seems to be waiting impatiently to be eaten.
When you actually eat it, you're soothed by its softness.
The subtle sweetness of the bread itself, combined with the butter and salt that enhance it,
creates a delicious salt bread that leaves you feeling satisfied and happy after eating it.

Stone Oven Bread Workshop Birthday

This is "Birthday," a stone oven bakery based in Sendai,
a long-established bakery with over 40 years of history.
The name comes from the idea that "each loaf of bread has its own 'face' and 'expression,' and every day is like its birthday."
with a diameter of 5 meters and weighing 16 tonsa massive stone oven made by Farjas, a Spanish company!
Bath day salt bread

In stark contrast to Panse's salt bread, Birthday's salt bread is a white salt bread made with soft French bread dough.
The pepper sprinkled on top is very appetizing.
When I broke it in half, I could see that it was densely packed, and I could imagine the chewy texture even before taking a bite.
My impression after trying it was, "I want to eat more!" It was
chewy and substantial, but the aroma of pepper was incredibly appetizing!
Even though I was already full, this salt bread was so appealing that it made me want to eat even more.

The results are announced! Who will be the winner?
And now, it's time to announce the results!
Which of Miyagi Prefecture's two top bakeries will emerge victorious in this salt bread showdown?
The result is a draw!
Actually, I can't decide!
These two breads are perfect for completely different occasions!
Panse's salt bread is perfect for a light snack.
It pairs well with milk or cocoa, making it a great treat to enjoy while chatting with friends.
On the other hand, Birthday's salt bread is a bread you'll want to eat heartily as a main meal.
It's also filling, making it perfect for lunchtime!
It's even better with bacon and eggs and corn chowder!
This is
one of those cases where I made a mistake in choosing the subject matter.
Actually, there was no need to compare the two bakeries in the first place.
Choosing delicious bread in the right situation is one of the joys of going to a bakery.
Today you can eat bread from Panse, and tomorrow you can eat bread from Birthday.
There's no need to win or lose!
If you really want to settle this, why not buy bread from both bakeries and compare them!
