Become a Haneto and take part in the Nebuta Festival!
Not only can you watch the Nebuta floats, but you can also join the parade as a "Haneto"! The only requirement is that you are dressed in full Haneto attire!

What is the formal attire of the haneto?
- A flower hat on the head
- A bright red or pink sash is worn on the shoulder
- On the waist is a "shigoki" and a tin container for drinking water or sake called a "gagashiko."
- A yukata based on a white background
- The hem of the kimono is rolled up to the knees and a pink or blue "okoshi" is attached underneath
- The feet are "white tabi" and "zori." The trick to keeping the "zori" from slipping off is to tie them with a blue polka dot hand towel called "mame shibori."
If you are not dressed in this way, you will not be able to participate. On the other hand, as long as you are properly dressed, participation is open to everyone, so there is no need to register in advance or check in on the day. (Depending on how busy the event is, you may not be able to participate.)
Once you are fully dressed and ready, gather at the Haneto meeting point at the Shinmachi Yanagimachi intersection (near the departure point at the front of the large Nebuta ① on the operation map) and join the waiting line of Nebuta groups
You can purchase a complete haneto costume at a department store for around 10,000 yen. If you don't think it's worth buying one, there are shops that will rent you a costume and help you put it on. The cost is around 4,000 yen

At the eve of the festival, you can view all the large Nebuta floats in advance!
The eve of the Nebuta parade is held on August 1st, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The venue is Nebuta Lasse Land in Aoiumi Park, located behind Aomori's landmark, Aspam

In fact, you can see all the large illuminated Nebuta floats here before the main festival begins. It may be difficult to see all of the Nebuta properly on the day of the festival due to the crowds, but if you're one of those people, you can get a good look at the Nebuta in detail by going to the eve of the festival!
Every year, various events are held on the stage inside the venue, such as an introduction to Miss Nebuta, an introduction to Nebuta created by Nebuta artists, Nebuta music performances, and a music contest, so if you have the time and schedule, this is an event that you should definitely visit

The festival finale is marked by a Nebuta sea parade and fireworks display
On the final day of the Nebuta Festival, August 7th, the final large Nebuta float will be paraded during the day (from 1:00 PM), and in the evening (from 7:15 PM to 9:00 PM) the festival will conclude with a fireworks display and a Nebuta sea parade at Aomori Port

Four Nebuta floats parade across the sea against the backdrop of approximately 10,000 fireworks, bringing the festival to a close with their majestic appearance. Some local Aomori residents even say, "It's a shame to feel like you've fully experienced the Nebuta floats without seeing this parade across the sea!" In fact, I've been told that myself!

summary
The Aomori Nebuta Festival is one of Tohoku's most famous summer festivals. The main festival itself is of course wonderful, but there are also events at the beginning and end that can only be experienced at that time... It's a festival that you can't let your guard down at
As the event lasts for about a week, it would be difficult to experience everything, but if you can experience just one of the first or second half, you might discover a new charm to Nebuta!

In front of Aomori Station, there is also a facility called "Nebuta House Warasse" where you can experience Nebuta culture all year round. Every year, the facility displays the previous year's award-winning Nebuta, so even if you can't make it during the Nebuta season, you can still experience the excitement of Nebuta!
