This is the Ishinomaki City Fireworks Festival, held at the mouth of the Kitakami River.
The "Kawabiraki Festival" was started as a way of expressing gratitude to Kawamura Sonbei Shigekichi, who saved the city of Ishinomaki by controlling the Kitakami River's floods.
This fireworks display, held on the second day of the two-day festival starting on July 31st, is expected to be a spectacular finale to the festival.
