Amazake

[Miyagi Prefecture] Enjoy it because it is a rice-producing region! Delicious amazake from the prefecture!

Miyagi Prefecture is famous for its rice.
According to statistics from 2015, Miyagi Prefecture ranks eighth in terms of cultivated land area in Japan. Of that, it boasts the fourth largest area of rice paddies in the country.

One of the local specialties we would like to recommend is "amazake," a type of sweet sake. Amazake is a highly nutritious drink that has recently been referred to as "drinkable IV drip," but if you're going to drink it, you want it to taste good, right?

There are two types of amazake: one made from sake lees and one made from rice koji. As this is a rice-growing region, you'll want to drink the rice koji amazake!

So, this time I'd like to introduce some delicious amazake from Miyagi Prefecture that I recommend!

Akiu Amazake "Hanabaren" (Ocha no Igeta)

Hanabaren is an original sweet sake sold at Akiu Village Agrie no Mori, and its most notable feature is its ease of drinking

Hanabaren

Amazake, made from rice koji, is known for being odorless and easy to drink, but Hanabaren has been designed to be even easier to drink. It is richly sweet, yet refreshing and doesn't leave your mouth feeling sticky. What's more, you can enjoy the sweetness even when it's cold, so it's also recommended for after a bath

It comes in a variety of sizes, including one-cup, three-bottle sets, and 720ml bottles, so be sure to try this new Akiu specialty!

Amazake (Ichinokura)

This "Amazake" is made with rice koji and is proudly offered by Ichinokura, a sake brewery representing Miyagi Prefecture. Its
distinctive packaging resembles a retort pouch. The greatest advantage of this packaging is that it allows you to easily enjoy amazake in a variety of ways.

Amazake

In addition to the standard method of heating it in a pot of hot water and pouring it into a separate container, you can also chill it in the refrigerator and enjoy it straight from the bag using the included straw, or freeze it in the bag and eat it as a sorbet by squeezing it with your fingers. If you want to discover new charms of amazake, be sure to try Ichinokura's "Amazake"!

The amazake latte at Date Cafe O'der, located inside Sendai Station, uses amazake made at Ichinokura. It's a refreshing drink with a wide variety of flavors
