What about sasa kamaboko?
First of all, what kind of food is sasa kamaboko?
For those who only know that it is a kamaboko shaped like bamboo leaves, let me explain
A typical kamaboko is a semi-cylindrical piece attached to a board, but this is a type of kamaboko called steamed kamaboko
As the name suggests, this kamaboko is made by steaming, and some have browned areas on the surface
Fish paste products such as hanpen are also broadly called kamaboko, and are apparently made by boiling fish paste
On the other handSasakamaboko is a grilled fish cake made by skewering minced fish meat and grilling it
Nowadays, they are made by putting them into a mold, but in the past, they were shaped by beating them with the palm of the hand
By the wayMiyagi Prefecture is currently the number one prefecture in Japan in terms of both production and consumption of kamaboko, including sasa kamabokoIt is as follows
Sasakamaboko is a favorite among all the prefecture's residents
In the next section, we will explore that history
What is the history of sasa kamaboko?
Sasakama was born in Miyagi Prefecture during the Meiji period,
so surprisingly, the tradition was still quite new.
Between 1902 and 1903, there was an incident in which a large amount of flounder was caught from Yuriage to Kinkazan
Because there was so much of it, it was often thrown away, so a processing method that made it easier to preserve it had to be developed
This is how sasa kamaboko was born

When sasa kamaboko was first created, it was not called "sasa kamaboko" but was called "sasa kamaboko" because it resembled a tongue"Tongue Kamaboko"From hitting with the palm of your hand"Palm-sized kamaboko"The name was not stable, and it was called by various names depending on the store and person
The name "Sasakamaboko" was born in the Showa era.
Abe Kamaboko store named it "Sasakamaboko" after the Sendai clan's family crest, "bamboo and sparrows," and the name gradually spread to the surrounding area.
Now, this bamboo leaf-shaped kamaboko has become known as sasa kamaboko throughout Japan
Abe Kamaboko Shop, the company that coined the name, is still in business as a long-established kamaboko shop to this day

Sasakamaboko is usually eaten as sashimi.
Dip it in soy sauce and take a bite, and the delicious flavor of the white fish will fill your mouth.
Because it is grilled, it has less of a fishy smell and is easy to eat, which is another feature of Sendai sasakama.
But I'll add a twist here
The theme is sasakama, which goes well with alcohol
It's really easy, so please give it a try
