Fun lunch tour! Tokyo Station Hotel
table of contents
Tokyo Station Hotel is a historic hotel that has been operating since the year after Tokyo Station opened, and is integrated with the red brick station building of Tokyo Station. And what's secretly popular right now is a day tour that includes a tour of the Tokyo Station Hotel and lunch! We decided to try it out!
Visit Tokyo Station Hotel!
The red brick station building of Tokyo Station was designated as a national important cultural property in 2003. Since 2006, the building's exterior has been restored and earthquake-resistant reinforcement work has been carried out, and business resumed on October 3, 2012. The new Tokyo Station Hotel has a gallery in the guest room corridor where you can learn about its history.
The former Tokyo Station Hotel is also known as the place where great writers of the Showa era, such as Yasunari Kawabata and Seicho Matsumoto, stayed to write. To commemorate this occasion, the exhibits include a framed double-page spread of the first page of the first series of ``Dots and Lines,'' which was published in a magazine, as well as a framed timetable. When you join the tour, the hotel staff will guide you to the guest room floor, which is reserved for guests.
Go straight through the guest room floor on the 3rd floor and you will be guided to the Cathedral Dome on the south side. The other side of the window is the south exit hall of Tokyo Station. On the wall, explanations of the restoration of the dome's ceiling and wall decorations are posted. Here, the hotel staff will give you a detailed explanation. Of course, they will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
If you look down from the window, you will see the south exit hall. There is a passageway with handrails around the door on the opposite side of the third floor, but this is for maintenance purposes and is not used by the hotel staff. There are also guest rooms overlooking the south exit on the 3rd floor of Cathedral Dome.
The best room! Imperial Suite
After touring the South Exit Cathedral Dome, it was time to tour the guest rooms. You can only tour the rooms where you are not staying overnight, but this time we were able to see the only special room, the Imperial Suite. The living room of this guest room has a sofa, table, and desk. It is spacious enough for 16 people to relax.
The street you can see from the living room window is Gyoko-dori, which stretches towards the Imperial Palace. "Imperial Suite" is located right in the middle of Tokyo Station. The buildings on the left and right are the Shinmaru Building on the left. Maru Building is on the right. What you can see directly below is the carriage entrance used by His Majesty the Emperor when using Tokyo Station.
The bedroom is a spacious space. The bed is king size and there is an LCD TV on the wall opposite the bed. The bathroom is adjacent to the bedroom. There is also a minibar. Regarding the accommodation fee, one night's accommodation fee is approximately 800,000 yen, excluding consumption tax, service charge, and accommodation tax. By the way, Tokyo Station Hotel is highly rated overseas as well, and in 2018 it was awarded 4 stars in America's "Forbes Travel Guide" for the third consecutive year.
The tour ends with lunch in the atrium!
After touring the Cathedral Dome and the guest rooms, have lunch at Atrium, a restaurant exclusively for hotel guests. The space that was originally an attic in the center of the station building was renovated during restoration work that began in 2006. The red bricks on the left wall are from the pre-war Tokyo Station Hotel. The ceiling is high and the outside light comes in as much as possible, making it very relaxing.
Originally, the "Atrium" was the venue for the breakfast buffet. At the front is the space where the lunch buffet dishes are arranged. Since there are many customers from overseas, the names and descriptions of the dishes are posted in English next to the dishes. By the way, the lunch we have on this tour is basically a French course meal. Depending on the tour, there is also a lunch that mainly consists of beef stew.
How was it?
Several travel agencies offer tours of the Tokyo Station Hotel for a limited time. We also hold the "Atrium Lunch Plan" several times a month at the Tokyo Station Hotel. For details, please check the "Atrium" page on the official website. You are sure to enjoy an extraordinary experience!
