[Tokyo] The National Diet Building, the center of Japanese politics

The National Diet Building, located in Nagatacho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, is the center of Japanese politics and the place where the Diet regularly convenes.
The symmetrical building houses the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors on either side, and is a familiar landmark not only as the legislative body but also as a subject of dramas and movies.
Although it is a building with a solemn atmosphere, it is generally free for anyone to tour the facilities on weekdays.

Guided tours are available inside the National Diet Building, allowing visitors to explore the interior.
Tours are available Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 4 PM, unless there is a plenary session or special event. Individuals can participate in the tour, but groups of 10 or more require advance reservations.
Large-scale events, such as school trips, often require reservations several months in advance.
For small groups, simply go to the visitor reception desk and fill out the application form to participate. The approximately one-hour tour begins in the main hall, led by a guide. When
visiting the House of Councillors, visitors can see not only the plenary session hall often seen on the news, but also the visitor lobby displaying valuable historical materials, and even the Emperor's resting room and the Imperial family's rooms.

You can reflect on the stage that has given rise to countless dramas, or admire the opulent interior.
You can even walk along the red carpet, which is synonymous with the Diet, giving you a glimpse into the lives of the politicians.
The Diet Building also has a souvenir shop where you can buy sweets and other items that can only be purchased there.
Some of the items change each time the prime minister changes, so many people become repeat visitors.

The National Diet Building is easily accessible via the Tokyo Metro, just a one-minute walk from Nagatacho Station.
