[Tokyo] Too standard to pass! ? Zoos and botanical gardens in Tokyo that you want to visit now
table of contents
Tokyo has many tourist attractions, and many people plan to visit various places on the weekend. For those people, we recommend zoos and botanical gardens. They may seem a little dull, but Tokyo's zoos and botanical gardens are packed with things to see!
Tama Zoological Park (Hino City)
It originally opened as a branch of Ueno Park, famous for its pandas, but is now an independent zoo. Located in Hino City, a suburb of Tokyo, it boasts a vast area. The zoo is divided into three areas, the African Garden, the Australian Garden, and the Asian Garden, based on the continents where the animals live. In addition to the animals, there is also an insect garden, which is divided into two parts: the main building and the insect ecology garden. The highlight of the Asian Garden is the "Skywalk," a popular area where orangutans can walk across a 150-meter rope

Edogawa Natural Zoo (Edogawa)
If you want to relax and interact with a variety of animals, we recommend the Edogawa Natural Zoo! The zoo has a petting area where you can see rabbits, guinea pigs, sheep, and more. You can even sit a rabbit on your lap, making it a great place for people who want to get up close and personal with animals. However, the petting area has limited hours and may be canceled depending on the weather, so we recommend checking beforehand before heading out

Itabashi Ward Tropical Botanical Garden (Itabashi Ward)
The Itabashi Tropical Botanical Garden allows you to experience the tropical rainforest environment of Southeast Asia without leaving Tokyo. Divided into three zones—intertidal vegetation, tropical lowland forest, and village landscape—you can view a wide variety of plants in the greenhouse. There's also a mini aquarium showcasing Southeast Asian creatures, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with creatures they wouldn't normally see. Every Saturday, the garden hosts "Aquarium Meal Time," which shows visitors how the aquarium's creatures eat, and every Sunday, a guided tour explains the tropical plants in the garden. The adjacent cafe, "Claire," also serves Malaysian cuisine, including nasi goreng topped with generous amounts of ingredients and delicious curry puffs with a crispy, spicy flavor
