The biggest attraction of Tohoku Safari Park is the free-roaming area. You can rent a loaner car and drive around by yourself. You can also enter with other people on the park bus. Many people enter in a loaner car because it offers an even more thrilling experience. The dilapidated state of the loaner cars can be frightening. There are very few that still have proper side mirrors attached. Most are broken off in half. This is the work of the elephants. Apparently, the elephants break them with their trunks. If you want to experience it up close, choose a car that still has at least one side mirror, which is rare. That way, you might be able to see the side mirror being removed right before your eyes...!

In the Safari Zone, lions welcome you. A notable feature is that lions are the only carnivores present. There are no cages or fences, so you can get up close to the lions if you want. In the Herbivore Area, there are deer and alpacas. These animals move slowly, so you can enjoy a leisurely viewing. In the Herbivore Zone, you are allowed to open the windows. There is a safari restaurant located almost in the center of Tohoku Safari Park. Many people have lunch here. The interior of the restaurant has the feel of a Showa-era diner. Meal tickets are required. There is a souvenir corner at the back of the restaurant. There are cute stuffed lions that were scary before, which is very soothing
