[Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture] Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium realistically reproduces the sea of Sanriku! A large school of sardines dances

I love aquariums, so I go to many different areas. There are also recommended aquariums in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. Its name is "Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium". Founded in July 2015. It is still a new aquarium. This time, we will be featuring the Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium, which is also a great date spot.

Numerous exhibits that allow you to enjoy the Tohoku sea to the fullest

Maboya Forest

When you enter the aquarium, the first thing that catches your eye is the Maboya tank spread out above your head. Many people may be saying, "What is Maboya? This is the first time I've heard of it..." Let me give you a quick explanation about Maboya ↓

Maboya is a delicacy grown in Sanriku. Miyagi Prefecture in particular is famous for its production of sea squirts. It accounts for over 70% of the production in Japan. Hoya is nicknamed the pineapple of the sea because of its high nutritional value and flavor. Among the sea squirts, the most common one is Maboya.

Maboya is, after all, a local delicacy from Miyagi Prefecture. That's what greets you first. You can look up at a large number of Maboya from the bottom of the tank.

The sparkling sea of life

This is the main attraction of the aquarium. The huge aquarium (13 m wide, 6.5 m high) perfectly recreates the Sanriku sea. The sunlight shines in from the top of the aquarium, giving it a more natural atmosphere. The sight of a school of sardines swimming leisurely is a sight to behold. A performance in which large schools of sardines dance to music is held two to four times a day. It takes about 5 minutes each time. We highly recommend checking out this performance.

Inner Bay Megumi no Umi

Oysters are a specialty of Miyagi Prefecture. The Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium also features exhibits on oyster farming. This exhibit is also very realistic. We create ripples artificially and make the sound of waves.

Aquarium food court <wakuwaku ocean>

At the food court, you can enjoy your meal while looking at real seals. This is a food court that can only be found at an aquarium. There are many items on the menu that give you a taste of the Sanriku sea. For example, there is the ``Saba Dashi Salt Ramen'' (780 yen), which uses mackerel caught in Sanriku, and the ``Fukahire Milk Curry'' (1,380 yen), which uses shark fin harvested in Kesennuma.
