[Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture] Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium realistically reproduces the sea of Sanriku! A large school of sardines dances

I love aquariums, so I travel to various regions. There is one aquarium I would like to recommend in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. It is called the Sendai Uminomori Aquarium. It was established in July 2015, so it is still a relatively new aquarium. This time, I will be featuring the Sendai Uminomori Aquarium, which is also a great date spot

Numerous exhibits that allow you to fully enjoy the Tohoku sea

Masquirt Forest

When you enter the aquarium, the first thing that catches your eye is the tank of ascidians that spreads out above your head. Many people may be wondering, "What is a ascidian? I've never heard of it before..." Here's a quick explanation of what a ascidian is:

Maboya is a delicacy grown in the Sanriku region. Miyagi Prefecture is particularly famous for its sea squirt production, accounting for over 70% of the nation's total production. Due to its high nutritional value and delicious flavor, sea squirts are also known as the pineapple of the sea. Of all sea squirts, Maboya is the most commonly known

Maboya is, after all, a local delicacy of Miyagi Prefecture, and that's what greets you first. You can look up at a huge amount of maboya from the bottom of the tank

The ocean sparkling with life

This is the highlight of the aquarium. The huge tank (13m wide, 6.5m high) beautifully recreates the sea off Sanriku. Sunlight streams in from above the tank, creating a more natural atmosphere. The sight of the schools of sardines swimming leisurely is simply breathtaking. A performance in which these schools of sardines dance to music is held two to four times a day. Each performance lasts about five minutes. We highly recommend checking out this performance

Inner Bay Blessed Sea

Oysters are a specialty of Miyagi Prefecture. Sendai Uminomori Aquarium also has an oyster farming exhibit. This exhibit is also very realistic, with artificial ripples and the sound of waves being produced

Aquarium Food Court <wakuwaku ocean>

At the food court, you can enjoy a meal while watching real seals. It's a food court that you can only find at an aquarium. The menu also has many dishes that evoke the seas of Sanriku. For example, there is the "Mackerel Dashi Shio Ramen (780 yen)" made with mackerel caught in Sanriku, and the "Shark Fin Milk Curry (1,380 yen)" made with shark fins harvested in Kesennuma
