An active volcano whose activity is still being observed
Adachi Tarasan is an active volcano in Fukushima Prefecture that has long been loved by many people, having appeared in the Manyoshu and Kotaro Takamura's Chiekosho. It is located on the south side of Bandai-Asahi National Park, and has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains and Utsukushima's 100 Famous Mountains. A phreatic eruption was observed about 100 years ago, and continuous observations have been made since the beginning of the Heisei era due to the generation of volcanic gas and increased geothermal activity.
The mountain has a relatively gentle surface and is recommended even for beginners.
Mt. Adatara is 1,700m above sea level, and there are several peaks connected for about 9km around this mountain. As you climb up the mountain, you will see a variety of craters and rock surfaces, and you can enjoy the clumps of flowers and plants. Above all, the view from the top of the mountain is spectacular, and the 360-degree panoramic view is a feast for climbers. There are several entrances to the mountain such as the Okudake trailhead, Shiozawa trailhead, Ishikaga trailhead, Noji Onsen trailhead, and Yokomuko Onsen trailhead, and there are also several trails from here. There are hot springs such as Shiozawa Onsen, Dake Onsen, Numajiri Onsen, Okudake Onsen, Noji Onsen, and Yokomuko Onsen near all of the Yamaguchi areas. It is popular because it allows you to soothe your tired body from mountain climbing.
The Adatara Valley Nature Trail is also popular, and has its source just below the ridgeline of Mt. Adatara, and is located at an altitude of approximately 950 to 1,000 meters along the upstream side of the Harase River, commonly known as the Karasu River. The total length is approximately 1 km and the journey time is approximately 1 hour.
Some of the mountain climbing courses include ropeways, so beginners and people who just want to enjoy the scenery can easily visit. The fall foliage season is so popular that special flights are offered. The red and yellow trees look like a carpet. The peak of autumn leaves begins near the summit in late September and slowly descends to the base until early November.
You can also enjoy alpine plants from spring to summer, and ski at Adatara Kogen Ski Resort in winter. It is visited by tourists throughout the year, and is the most visited mountain in the prefecture along with Mt. Bandai.
