Mount Adatara, where the real sky is

"The Real Sky" refers to the blue sky that stretches above Mount Adatara
Mount Adatara appears under the name "Atatatarayama" in "Chieko Sho," a collection of memories written by sculptor and poet Takamura Kotaro about his wife Chieko, who was born in Nihonmatsu City
Chieko says there is no sky in Tokyo
He said he wanted to see the real sky
(Omitted)
On top of Mt. Atatara
The blue sky that appears every day
It is said to be Chieko's true sky
Quote: Chieko Sho
For Chieko, who had fallen ill in Tokyo, the sky over Mt. Adatara must have been a symbol of her beautiful hometown, soothing both body and mind. She captured this scene in the phrase "the true sky."
Mount Adatara, one of Japan's 100 famous mountains

Mount Adatara, 1,728 meters above sea level, is one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains and is beloved by many climbers. The
small rocky peaks at the summit are reminiscent of female breasts, hence the nickname "Nipple Mountain."
Mount Adatara, known as one of the 100 famous flower mountains, is a delight to visitors as the flowers on the plateau bloom one after another from April to early October
You can enjoy fresh greenery in May and June, alpine plants from June to August, and autumn leaves from late September to late October
Mount Adatara is home to a mountain hut called Kuroganegoya, which is open all year round, making it a popular destination for overnight snow mountain climbers. Dinner at Kuroganegoya is the famous Kuroganegoya curry, made with a secret recipe. The hut is also popular with many climbers as it is home to a hot spring that flows directly from the source.
(Currently, Kuroganegoya is closed due to reconstruction work due to aging, and is scheduled to be completed in 2025.)
Additionally, if you take the ropeway, it takes about an hour and a half to reach the summit, making it a great trekking experience for beginners and families alike. One of the attractions of Mt. Adatara is the magnificent views from the summit that rival those of 2,000m and 3,000m-class mountains!
Mount Adatara Ropeway

There is a ropeway at the Adatara Kogen Ski Resort, where the trailhead is located. During the 10-minute ride, if the weather is good, you can see the cityscapes of Nihonmatsu and Fukushima below, as well as the Adatara mountain range, Azuma Kofuji, and Zao mountain range
About a five-minute walk from the summit station, Yakushi-dake Observation Plaza Panorama Park is a viewing spot offering a panoramic view of the Adatara mountain range. You can see the "real sky" that Chieko loved.
During the autumn foliage season, the reds, oranges, and yellows of the deciduous trees and the green of the Japanese white pine create a vivid contrast on the mountainside, creating a spectacular view. Even if you're not into mountain climbing, you can take the ropeway for about five minutes to enjoy the spectacular view, so it's recommended for viewing the autumn leaves this coming season.
Additionally, the observation space at the end of the Mt. Adatara Ropeway (1,350m above sea level) is open as a free rest area where you can take a lunch box, snacks, etc. and take a break
