Akiu Winery is Sendai's first winery, established after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
It opened on a small hill in Akiu with the goal of creating a winery that connects and nurtures people, the community, culture, and industry.

The Tohoku region faces numerous challenges in its recovery and development, including problems arising from the Great East Japan Earthquake and a shortage of successors in agriculture.
Akiu Winery was established to address these issues. With
a climate suitable for grape cultivation, convenient access to central Sendai,
and above all, tourist resources such as the Akiu Onsen hot spring resort and rich natural scenery,

Akiho Winery is surrounded by its own 3-hectare farm.
Looking out at the vineyards from the winery entrance, the contrast with the distant Ou Mountains is magnificent.
