This region is surrounded by the Dewa Mountains to the east, the Asahi Mountains to the south, and Mount Chokai to the north, and the rivers flowing from each of these mountains create fertile plains, making it famous as one of Japan's leading rice-producing areas

Eleven beaches will be open in the summer of 2023, and we'd like to introduce five recommended swimming spots

summary

This year, Yamagata Prefecture's beach season is scheduled to open on either the third weekend of July or the following weekend

Both beaches have coastlines stretching from north to south, so you can have fun during the day under the view of Mt. Chokai, and then relax in the evenings while watching the sun set over the Sea of Japan

Although the coastline is short, Yamagata Prefecture's beaches are rich in character, with some beaches surrounded by rocks where there are no waves and small children can play, and others with waves big enough for surfing, perfect for young people to enjoy marine sports
