7 Wineries in Fukushima Prefecture! Enjoy the Unique Wines of the Fruit Kingdom!

Fukushima, the "Fruit Kingdom," is a thriving producer of peaches, apples, and even grapes

Until now, grapes have mainly been consumed raw, but in recent years, varieties for wine production have increased, and seven wineries in the prefecture are producing unique wines

Kitaaizu Wine and Otake Vineyard (Aizuwakamatsu City)

This long-established grape farm was founded in 1887 and, at the recommendation of Emperor Meiji, began producing wine in 1900. The domaine has a wine vineyard within its tourist vineyard, and handles everything from harvesting to bottling

The bottles, which feature unique illustrations, are 500ml and also available in 350ml. They come in three varieties: red, white, and rosé, with the light red wine being particularly recommended

Otake Vineyard Kita Aizu Wine (Red: Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscat Bailey A)

This sweet red wine has a pleasant tannin astringency and acidity, yet is easy to drink. It has fruity aromas of raspberry and blueberry, and a sherry-like aftertaste

They offer red, white and sparkling wines made from European grapes such as Zweikertlebe, Merlot and Chardonnay, as well as Japanese grapes such as Muscat Bailey A and Yama Sauvignon

Zweigeltrebe (red: 100% Zweigeltrebe)

Wine, brandy, liqueur, cider, and more are made using fruits grown in the prefecture

In addition to a wide variety of wines, including reds such as Merlot and wild grapes, and whites such as Koshu and Chardonnay, the pear sparkling wine made with "Hosui" is also very popular
