This time, we visited Namekawa Shrine, which is also famous as a power spot in Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture.

If you are visiting by car, head east from National Route 4 at the intersection in front of Hibari Onsen Namekawa Shrine . A lush, wooded hill appears in a residential area. The shrine grounds are located on top of the hill, as if quietly watching over the lives of the people.

What kind of shrine is Namekawa Shrine?

Namekawa Shrine has a long history, dating back to the time of Emperor Keiko (late 1st century onwards).

Yamato Takeru, a hero recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, is said to have traveled around Japan exorcising various disasters. When he visited Sukagawa City, Fukushima Prefecture, he described the smoothness of the riverbed, which is said to be the origin of the name "Namekawa." It is said that the shrine began when people who admired Yamato Takeru enshrined him as Namekawa-no-Okami.
