[Semboku City, Akita Prefecture] Dakigaeri Valley is a scenic spot representing Akita! You can feel safe on the promenade that you can pass without having to hug me back!

There is a place in Akita that will captivate you with its clear, blue water and the majestic natural scenery of the mountains reflected in it. This is the tourist spot known only to those in the know, Dakigaeri Valley. It is also known as a beautiful spot for viewing autumn leaves. It is the perfect place for the coming season

The origin of Dakigaeri Valley

Dakigaeri Valley is an interesting name, isn't it? There are several theories about its origin. The most likely one is that the path was so narrow that people had to hug each other when passing each other. Some people may have been worried about going there after hearing this, but there's no need to worry. The road has now been well maintained, and people can pass each other without having to hug each other

The promenade in Dakigaeri Valley is an abandoned railway line

This well-maintained promenade is also popular with railway enthusiasts, as it is the abandoned Ihonai Forest Railway. This railway was built to transport Akita cedar, famous as one of Japan's three most beautiful forests. It ran from Natsuse to Jindai Station on the JNR Ihonai Line (now the JR Tazawako Line). Walking along the promenade, imagining the train running there, you can feel the scent of timelessness

Dakigaeri Shrine is also a famous spot

At the entrance to Dakigaeri Valley is Dakigaeri Shrine. The origin of the name of this shrine is different from that of Dakigaeri Valley. Minamoto no Yoshiie prayed for a calm river flow as he marched through the Tamagawa River in battle. He enshrined his personal Buddha and prayed. After winning the battle, Yoshiie returned safely with his personal Buddha in his pocket. From this, it was said that the shrine "returns with nostalgia" and "returns with nostalgia". This legend is said to be the origin of Dakigaeri Shrine. It is refreshing to see that even though it is the same Dakigaeri, the origins passed down at the valley and the shrine are different

God's Rock Bridge

After walking along the footpath in Dakigaeri Valley for a while, you will see a beautiful red suspension bridge. This is Kaminoiwabashi Bridge. This suspension bridge is the oldest in Akita Prefecture. It was completed in 1926 (Taisho 15). As a symbol of Dakigaeri Valley, it has been showing off its beautiful appearance to people for a long time. It is said that the name of the bridge is derived from one character each from the former Jindai Village and the former Shiraiwa Village. With Dakigaeri Valley in the background, Kaminoiwabashi Bridge looks just like a painting. The view of the valley from the bridge is also said to be spectacular
