Tokyo's adult bar district where you can be intoxicated by the temptations of the back alleys

For those who usually drink at izakayas in front of train stations, we recommend the "deep-sleep drinking districts" that exude a deep atmosphere. Tokyo is dotted with numerous drinking districts, bustling with people enjoying drinks, delicious food, and the atmosphere of the drinking district every night. This time, we will introduce some of Tokyo's deep-sleep drinking districts

Shinjuku Golden Gai (Shinjuku Ward)

Shinjuku Golden Gai is one of the most famous drinking districts in Tokyo. Originally an entertainment district known as the Blue Light District, it is now home to around 200 restaurants and bars

Since the Showa era, this area has been frequented by editors, actors, and other cultural figures, and is also known as a center of subculture.By the way, the alleys of Shinjuku Golden Gai are private property, so please be aware that taking photos without permission is prohibited, except from the public roads near Hanazono Police Box

Harmonica Alley (Musashino City)

Harmonica Yokocho, located at the north exit of Kichijoji Station, is a drinking district made up of five streets: Noren-koji, Chuo-dori, Showakai-dori, Nakamise-dori, and Asahi-dori. Harmonica Yokocho's roots lie in the black market that emerged after the war, and perhaps as a remnant of that history, it is packed with small shops

Each of the five streets has its own unique characteristics, and it's a good idea to start exploring from Chuo-dori, where you'll find Harmonica Kitchen, a symbol of Harmonica Yokocho, and Noren-koji, where more shops open at night

Shinjuku West Exit Shopping District (Shinjuku Ward)

The last place we'll introduce is Shinjuku West Exit Shopping Street, located in Nishi-Shinjuku. This shopping street is also known by names like Omoide Yokocho, and it also has its roots in the black market after the war. The majority of the shops there are yakitori restaurants and popular izakayas, so it's also called Yakitori Yokocho

During the Showa era, there were around 300 stores lined up along the street, but some stores were forced to move out because they were illegally occupying land, and now the number has settled down to about one-third of that.It is easily accessible from the business district of Shinjuku, so it's a great place to stop by after work
