The Sendai domain was ruled by the Date clan from its establishment until its abolition during the Meiji Restoration. While its official kokudaka (rice yield) was 620,000 koku, its actual kokudaka (rice yield), including its branch domain, Ichinoseki Domain, exceeded 1 million koku. The domain was a direct vassal of the Date clan.
