Nukamo, a long-established confectionery shop in Motomiya City, Fukushima Prefecture

Nukamo is a long-established Japanese confectionery shop located in Motomiya City, Fukushima Prefecture . It was founded in 1879, the year Okinawa Prefecture was established in Japan. In addition to Japanese sweets made with the same techniques and flavors that have been preserved since the shop's founding, the shop also produces seasonal Western-style sweets. Since 1994, the shop has operated as an adjoining Western-style confectionery shop.
However, in 2019, Typhoon Hagibis struck, causing the nearby Abukuma River to flood and forcing Nukamo to temporarily close. However, in March 2020, reopened as Nukamo Confectionery,
The restaurant is located about a 10-minute walk from Motomiya Station. Parking is available across the street and nearby. Nearby Mizuiro Park, , so it's a great place to stop by and buy some snacks when you come to play with your kids.
A wide selection of delicious Japanese and Western sweets

When you enter Nukamo, you'll find a clean and bright atmosphere. In addition to classic Japanese sweets like manju and okaki, you'll find a wide selection of original sweets
The dorayaki has the word "Honmiya" written on it, showing the commitment to using locally sourced ingredients. There is also a dorayaki featuring "Mayumi-chan,"
There are two types of monaka. "Adatara no Omoi" is a heart-shaped monaka. In addition to the regular monaka filled with bean paste and gyuhi, there is also one with a red and white skin. "Sai Caron" is a perfectly round monaka shaped like a macaron. It is a fun monaka with five different colors and five different flavors, all in vibrant pastel colors.
The refrigerated display case is lined with colorful products that are sure to catch your eye. The high-quality fresh sweets have artistic elements that beautifully capture the season, making it fun just to look at them. The cakes all look delicious, from those adorned with plenty of seasonal fruit to those with a classic feel covered in glossy chocolate
It seems that you can also order whole cakes and birthday cakes, and among the whole cakes "Wagashi Cake" . This is a product that can only be found at Nukamo, who is well versed in making Japanese sweets. It seems like it would be useful for celebrations for people who don't like fresh cream.
Among the many products available at Nukamo, the one that stands out their "Karintou ." They have a total of 10 different flavors, ranging from Japanese-style to unique varieties.
- Sake lees
- coffee
- Black tea
- honey
- Peanut soy sauce
- Black sesame
- White sesame
- cinnamon
- strawberry
- salt
With so many varieties, it can be hard to choose from the shelves. Perhaps the most well-known the "Koucha Karinto ." British Prime Minister Boris Johnson brought one to the Japan-UK Summit in March 2022, surprising the world.
Please note that there are seasonal flavors, so the selection of karinto may change
Review of Nukamo's Karinto

I chose "Coffee" and "Black Tea" from the 10 different types of Karinto

First, some coffee, crispy
It has a beautiful, glossy, jet-black appearance. When you put it in your mouth, you will taste a slightly bitter taste. It is not too sweet, so it may be more of a sweet for adults
The coating on the surface is not thick, making it light and easy to eat. The more you eat, the less you notice the bitterness, and you'll find yourself reaching for more
It goes well with sweet cafe latte, cocoa, hot milk, etc

Next, I sipped some tea
The moment I put this in my mouth, the aroma of tea leaves spread softly. Even without looking at the packaging, I think I could tell it was black tea flavor. The sweetness was refined and kept to a minimum so as not to overpower the flavor of the tea leaves
The texture of the dough is also very gentle. It's not greasy and crumbles easily. The elegant flavor makes you want to eat more than one
It was delicious with black tea, coffee, milk, and green tea
Both the "Coffee" and "Black Tea" flavors were so delicious that I definitely wanted to try the other flavors. It's fun to choose what flavor to try next!
