This is an experiential museum that aims to help people regain a sense of ease and spiritual richness by sharpening their sensibilities and enhancing their imagination, so it is useful for children's emotional education and may even help adults to rediscover forgotten everyday emotions

This time, we will introduce the "Sensation Museum" that you can enjoy even after you leave!

What is the Senses Museum?

The Senses Museum was established in 2000 and is the first museum in Japan to focus on the human senses

The first thing that greets you when you enter the museum is Circle 'n Circle

Circle 'n Circle is a giant human-powered doodle machine created by Yuji Fukui, an artist from Miyagi Prefecture

This work involves lying down on a platform attached to a giant wheel measuring 3.2 meters in diameter, and by turning the pedals with your hands and feet, the wheels and gears move, allowing you to scribble with chalk

I have actually tried it myself, and even though it was a simple action like turning the pedals, I couldn't get it to move the way I wanted it to.
However, I sensed the creator's passion in that frustration, and before I knew it, I was hooked.

The greatest attraction of the Sense Museum is that it displays a large number of works that can be enjoyed using all your senses!

Two exhibition zones that stimulate the senses and imagination

The museum is divided into three zones: the Dialogue Zone, a space for physical sensation; the Monologue Zone, a space for meditation; and the Traverse Zone, which connects these spaces

The theme of the Dialogue Zone is physical sensation.
Dialogue means conversation, and the name was chosen with the aim of having a virtual conversation between the viewer and the creator.
How the viewer interprets the message from the creator, the sensation gained through the work, is what constitutes a dialogue.

The theme of the Monologue Zone is spiritual awareness. Monologue means a monologue

While the Dialogue Zone allows visitors to enjoy conversations with the creators, the Monologue Zone allows visitors to converse with their own minds and deepen their imagination.
By coming into contact with a variety of works that stimulate the imagination, visitors' senses are sharpened and they are able to immerse themselves in their own world.

Even after returning home, the Sensory Museum

When your senses and imagination are heightened, you can enjoy everyday life from a new perspective. In that sense, the Senses Museum is a museum that you can enjoy even after you return home

If you feel like your everyday life is boring, be sure to stop by!
