[Iwate Prefecture] Introducing the local gourmet food of Iwate! The keyword is Sanma and Goemon!

Iwate has many local gourmet dishes that have been loved for a long time. This time, we will especially introduce ``Saury Surimi Soup'' and ``Goemon Ramen.'' In particular, we will also explain recommended shops in each area, so please use them as a reference for sightseeing.

"Saury Surimi Soup"

"Saury Surimi Soup" is a historical local dish in Ofunato. It has become a popular menu item in the areas around Ofunato and Kamaishi cities, where almost everyone has heard of it. It is often made at home. Each family has their own unique taste, which is interesting. It is also sometimes called "sanma fishball soup."

Sanma Surimi Soup is unique in that no seasoning is added afterwards. First, we make surimi from live saury caught in Ofunato. Add seasonings and form into large dumplings. When the dumplings are added to the soup, the flavor of the saury and seasonings permeate into the soup. This is the basics of "Saury Surimi Soup". Then add toppings, mainly vegetables, and simmer to complete the dish. The ingredients used vary greatly from household to household.

Sanma Surimi Soup is often served at restaurants along the coast of Iwate Prefecture. However, because it is such a home-cooked menu, it is rarely advertised with large signboards. Part of the fun is trying to find it. If I had to recommend a restaurant, it would be Takekoma Shokudo.

"Takekoma Shokudo" is a restaurant located in Rikuzentakata City. It is a popular restaurant that has recovered from the earthquake and has a spirited atmosphere.

"Goemon Ramen"

"Goemon Ramen" has been loved by Tono citizens for many years. In the past, you could only eat it in Tono City. However, it can now be eaten in places such as Hanamaki City. In Tono City, many restaurants offer Goemon Ramen. The basic Goemon ramen is a soy sauce-based soup topped with lots of spicy vegetables. However, the taste of the same "Goemon Ramen" varies considerably depending on the restaurant. Many people go on a "Goemon Ramen" pilgrimage to taste and compare.

We recommend Kiraku, which is said to be the origin of Goemon Ramen. The soup is soy sauce-based and has a refreshing taste, just like Goemon Ramen. The noodles are super thin curly noodles. It is boiled hard. As usual, the vegetables are spicy. A lot of stir-fried cabbage, onions, and bean sprouts are added to the ramen. This is the traditional "Goemon Ramen" that many people are addicted to.
