Located on a rocky mountain (elevation 340m) in the eastern hilly area, about a 10-minute drive from the center of Morioka City, this amusement park, surrounded by nature, was established in 1972 (Showa 47)

Located on a compact, flat site where you can overlook the entire park from the Ferris wheel, the park features 14 attractions (as of August 2026) and restaurants

There is a large shared parking lot with the adjacent golf course (Morioka Country Club) and driving range (Iwayama Golf Center), and parking is free of charge

The surrounding area includes Iwayama Park, which has an observation deck and cafe offering panoramic views of Morioka city, as well as Morioka City Zoo "ZOOMO" and Morioka Racecourse. It is an amusement park that citizens have been familiar with since childhood, often visited on kindergarten and elementary school field trips

What are the entrance fees and attraction fees for Iwayama Parkland?

Admission is 400 yen for children aged 4 to elementary school age (free for children under 3), 600 yen for adults (junior high school age and older), and 500 yen for seniors aged 65 and over. Discounts are also available for people with disabilities

Each attraction requires a "ride ticket" (130 yen per ticket), with the number of tickets ranging from 1 to 4 depending on the ride. It's more economical to purchase an "11-ticket pack" (1,300 yen) or a free pass (unlimited rides, including admission)

Incidentally, a free pass that allows unlimited rides costs 3,600 yen for adults and 2,800 yen for children, and you will be given a belt to wear on your wrist

Go-karts (3 ride tickets: Children riding alone must be in 5th grade or older)

Near the entrance, there are three two-seater go-karts in red, yellow, and green. They run two laps around a wide track, and children from the 5th grade of elementary school can ride alone

It's a popular ride, just like the roller coaster, but you often see the fathers enjoying it even more than the kids

Please note that the number of rides allowed with a free pass for go-karts is limited to three

Pop Spin Coaster (4 ride tickets: Minimum height 110cm)

This roller coaster features two-seater seats that rotate while the ride is in motion, making it the most popular ride as the unpredictable spins will have you screaming

The rotation pattern differs depending on the seat; the front seats with the most rotations and the back seats where you feel the strongest G-forces are recommended for advanced riders, while the middle seats with fewer rotations are recommended for beginners. The rotation timing and number of rotations are irregular, so you can enjoy a fresh feeling every time you ride

Dragon Coaster (3 ride tickets: ages 3 and up)

The "Dragon Coaster" is a self-propelled roller coaster designed for young children, consisting of two short laps. Even children who are too young for the Pop Spin Coaster can ride with a guardian and easily enjoy the thrill and speed that only a roller coaster can offer

The curves on the course are quite sharp, allowing you to feel plenty of G-force, making it a coaster that adults can enjoy to some extent as well

Ultra Swinger (4 ride tickets: for riders 110cm or taller)

The seats, which are supported by pillars, rotate rapidly while moving up and down

The seats rise to a high angle, and you feel like you're about to hit the trees on the premises, making this a popular attraction that is both stable and thrilling

Furthermore, various game machines are installed on the first floor beneath the Ultra Swinger, so you can play even when it's raining

This is another popular attraction, where suspended swings spin around at high speed like an Ultra Swinger

Merry-go-round (2 ride tickets)

The first floor of the Chain Tower is a merry-go-round, a classic amusement park attraction

There wasn't a long line, but there were some small children playing

Jumping Star (3 ride tickets: for those 90cm or taller)

This is a freefall-type attraction where the seats repeatedly rise and plummet. The height is relatively moderate, but the moment you drop, you'll experience a feeling of floating and thrill

Dream Train (2 ride tickets)

"Dream Train" is a train-type attraction that slowly circles the area around the Ferris wheel, teacups, and mystery house. Various animal sculptures line the tracks, and you can enjoy a leisurely train journey while viewing the park scenery from the windows

Please note that to reach the Ferris wheel, teacups, and mystery house, you will need to cross the Dream Train tracks. Please be careful of approaching trains and make sure it is safe before crossing

Teacup (2 ride tickets)

Teacups, along with carousels, are a classic amusement park attraction. However, for me, someone who doesn't like spinning rides, they feel a bit daunting

Looking down from the Ferris wheel, I saw a child having fun, vigorously turning the handle all by himself

Giant Ferris Wheel (3 ride tickets)

The Ferris wheel, a symbol of Iwayama Parkland, is an old-fashioned type that rotates slowly using gears. It stands approximately 32 meters tall, and the highest point of the gondolas is about 30 meters above the ground, allowing you to leisurely enjoy the park and the surrounding scenery from above

From the east side of the gondola, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Iwayama Parkland and the beautiful green golf course

Furthermore, the city of Morioka stretches out in the distance to the west, and on a clear day, you can even see Mount Iwate, making this a Ferris wheel with truly spectacular views

Maze (2 ride tickets)

Directly beneath the Ferris wheel, there's a huge, handcrafted-looking maze enclosed by wooden planks

The game is challenging enough that even adults might get a little lost, and the average time to complete it is about 5 minutes

Mystery House (3 ride tickets)

"Mystery House" is a haunted house with a retro Showa-era atmosphere where you navigate a maze-like building on your own. It's not the type where staff dressed as ghosts scare you; instead, dolls and mechanisms come to life in response to sensors

3D Theater (3 ride tickets)

This 3D theater, themed "Let's travel together through the worlds of the ocean, the sky, outer space, insects, and dinosaurs," offers an immersive experience where images leap out at you one after another. Enjoy a truly immersive visual experience as you journey through various worlds

Trampoline (1 ride ticket for 5 minutes: ages 4 to elementary school)

One of the most popular attractions for children is the trampoline, where they can move their bodies freely and have fun

Two trampolines, each approximately 2-3 meters on a side, are available, and each can accommodate up to 6 people. Staff members time the usage and signal when the next group will take over

Small ride-on toys (battery-powered cars, etc., 100 yen)

In addition to battery-powered cars that can be driven freely within a designated area, there are also rides that sway back and forth in place for added fun. No ride tickets are used; all rides are operated by directly inserting 100 yen coins

Dining options at Iwayama Parkland and recommended restaurants in the surrounding area

You are free to bring your own lunch and other food into the park, and you can sit and eat at any of the tables and chairs located throughout the park

The restaurant, which also serves as a shop within the park, offers light meals such as American hot dogs, as well as ramen, curry, and yakisoba

Canned beer is also available, but if you have to drive, please refrain from drinking it, just like I did
