[Miyagi] Matsushima, one of Japan's three most scenic spots, along with Miyajima and Amanohashidate

Matsushima is the collective name for Matsushima Bay in Miyagi Prefecture, the 260 or so islands that surround it, and the surrounding hills.
The beautiful scenery created by the ria coastline, which has been eroded over the years, is so beautiful that even the famous poet Matsuo Basho was unable to come up with a haiku to describe it, and it is counted as one of Japan's three most scenic spots, along with Miyajima and Amanohashidate.

If you come to Matsushima to enjoy the view, you can't miss the Four Great Views. These were selected by the Edo period Confucian scholar Shuzan Mannen, and you can enjoy different views from a total of four spectacular scenic spots

First of all, the view that can be seen from Otakamori on Miyatojima is spectacular.
You can look west from the eastern end of the bay, and enjoy the view colored by a beautiful sunset.

Next, there is Reikan, which can be seen from Daigoji Temple in Toyama, Matsushima Town.
Facing south, you can see the bay and Oku Matsushima, and the harmony between the islands scattered in the sea and the sky is extremely beautiful.

The view that can be seen from Ogidani is known as the Yukan.
The view of Shiogama Bay to the southeast, with its vibrant autumn leaves in autumn, is a sight to behold.

Finally, the view from Mount Tamon in Shichigahama is called the "Ikan."
The majestic Pacific Ocean is magnificent, and you can enjoy watching the ships passing through the bay.

Since all of these scenic spots are located on top of mountains, we recommend renting a car and traveling by car. There are
also sightseeing boats of various sizes that operate, allowing you to enjoy the rich natural scenery up close.
If you use a small boat, you can even go through sea caves on calm days, allowing you to see even more impressive views.
