Access to “Zao Dairy Center”

"Zao Dairy Center" is located at the foot of the Zao Mountain Range. It is a place rich in nature. To get to Zao Dairy Center, get off at Shiroishi Zao Station on the JR Tohoku Shinkansen, then take the Miyako Bus bound for Miyagi Zao Royal Hotel and get off at Togatta Onsen. It's about a 5 minute walk from there.

There is no admission fee, but there is a charge for the handmade experience.

Zao Dairy Center has a variety of fun spots. Next to the cheese factory is ``Handmade Bread and Cake Zao Farm''. We bake bread and cakes here every day. Among the most popular items are cheese tarts and cheese sticks, which are made with fresh cheese made at the factory. Cheese soft serve ice cream is also popular. I often see people walking around the center carrying this.

The rose garden has about 400 types of roses, including English roses and old roses. There is no admission fee. There is a bench in the rose garden, and many people sit here and watch the roses while eating the soft-serve ice cream.

At the Handmade Experience Center, you can try your hand at making cottage cheese (500 yen), mascarpone cheese (1500 yen), butter (500 yen), sausage (1300 yen), and ice cream (800 yen). The number in parentheses is the cost of the experience. To experience it, you must make a reservation at least one week in advance. You can eat your own cheese and sausage on the spot. After all, making your own cheese has a special taste.
