[Aomori] Core facility of Arts Towada plan “Towada City Museum of Contemporary Art”

The Towada Art Center is an art museum located in Towada City, Aomori Prefecture, which was built in 2008.
It was created as an open facility offering new experiences and as the core facility of the Arts Towada project. In addition to exhibiting artworks, it also serves as a base for supporting cultural and artistic activities and promoting exchanges.
The first thing that catches your eye is the horse sculpture in the museum's garden. It is a giant horse made from a variety of colorful flowers and is a popular photo spot. Another outdoor piece of art that can be enjoyed is the monochrome mural painted on the white exterior wall. You
can enjoy these dynamic artworks even before entering the museum.

An open museum

The museum was designed by renowned architect Ryue Nishizawa. He is a world-renowned architect who has
received numerous honors, including the 2006 Architectural Institute of Japan Award, the Golden Lion at the 2004 Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition, the 2005 Mainichi Art Award, and the 2010 Pritzker Architecture Prize.
The design concept is an intimate blend of artworks and the city.
From the outside, the exhibition rooms are scattered like scattered white boxes, and are designed to maintain the independence of the artworks on display while maintaining a close relationship between each of the exhibition rooms, which are connected by glass corridors.
The exhibition room buildings come in a variety of sizes, and the design also takes into consideration their harmony with the landscape surrounding the museum.

Across the street, the Art Plaza is lined with gigantic, humorous ghost art, fat car sculptures, and Yayoi Kusama pumpkins.
Another recommended spot is the cafe "cube," which opens onto the street. You can enjoy a variety of drinks, as well as snacks and sweets made with local ingredients.
There are also original goods and museum goods created by designers. It's a place where you'll want to look for memorable items.
