[Aomori] Core facility of Arts Towada plan “Towada City Museum of Contemporary Art”

Towada City Museum of Contemporary Art is an art museum located in Towada City, Aomori Prefecture, built in 2008.
It was created as an open facility that provides new experiences and as a core facility of the Arts Towada plan.In addition to exhibiting artwork, it is also used as a base to support cultural and artistic activities and promote exchange.
The first thing that catches your eye is the horse sculpture placed in the garden of the museum.
It is a huge horse made of colorful flowers and is a popular photo spot. Another piece of art that can be enjoyed outside is the monochrome mural painted on the white exterior wall. You can enjoy these dynamic works of art even before you enter the museum.

An open museum

The museum was designed by popular architect Ryue Nishizawa.
He is a world-renowned architect who has won numerous honors, including the 2006 Architectural Institute of Japan Award, the 2004 Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition Golden Lion Award, the 2005 Mainichi Art Award, and the 2010 Pritzker Prize.
The conceptual image of his design is a close intermingling of his artwork and the city.
When viewed from the outside, the exhibition rooms are arranged in a way that looks like scattered white boxes, and while maintaining the independence of the artworks on display, the exhibition rooms are connected by glass corridors, creating a close relationship. Efforts have been made to make it possible.
The exhibition room buildings vary in size and are designed to blend in with the surrounding landscape of the museum.

The ``Art Plaza'' across the street is lined with giant and humorous ghost art, fat car objects, and Yayoi Kusama's pumpkins.
Another recommended spot is the cafe ``CUBE,'' which is large and opens toward the city.
You can enjoy a variety of drinks and snacks and sweets made with local ingredients. We also have original goods and museum goods created by designers. It's a place where you'll want to look for memorable items.
