[Aomori] Towada Art Center, the core facility of the Arts Towada project

The Towada Art Center is an art museum located in Towada City, Aomori Prefecture, built in 2008.
Designed as an open facility offering new experiences and as a core facility of the Arts Towada project, it not only exhibits art but also serves as a hub for supporting and promoting cultural and artistic activities.
The first thing that catches the eye is the horse sculpture in the museum's garden. This giant horse, made of colorful flowers, is a popular photo spot. Another art piece to enjoy outdoors is the monochrome mural painted on the white exterior wall.
These dynamic art pieces can be enjoyed even before entering the museum.

An open museum

The museum was designed by the renowned architect Ryue Nishizawa. He is a world-class architect who
has received numerous accolades, including the Architectural Institute of Japan Award in 2006, the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition in 2004, the Mainichi Art Award in 2005, and the Pritzker Prize in 2010.
The design concept is the close integration of art and the city.
From the outside, the exhibition rooms are dispersed like scattered white boxes, and the design is ingenious in that it maintains the independence of the exhibited artworks while connecting each exhibition room with a close relationship through glass corridors.
The exhibition rooms are of various sizes, and the design also takes into consideration harmony with the landscape surrounding the museum.

Across the street, in the "Art Square," you'll find giant, humorous ghost sculptures, a fat car sculpture, and Yayoi Kusama's pumpkins, among other things.
The café "cube," which opens wide to the street, is also a recommended spot. You can enjoy a variety of drinks, as well as light meals and sweets made with local ingredients.
Original goods and museum merchandise designed by various designers are also available. It's a place where you'll want to look for a memorable item.
