Enjoy the gourmet food at JR Morioka Station! Seafood, local sake, craft beer, local coffee, and B-grade gourmet food! [Iwate Prefecture]

JR Morioka Station is directly connected to the station building " Fezan ," which houses many local restaurants, but JR East has also opened several local restaurants within the station itself.

JR East will begin improvement work at Morioka Station in December 2024, consolidating the Shinkansen ticket gates, which were previously separated into north and south sections, into one.

In line with this, the restaurants and souvenir shops at the south exit will be renovated in June 2025, and improvement work on the north exit will begin in October, so further evolution of in-station gourmet food is expected.

Please note that the prices in this article are current as of September 30, 2025.

What is "inside the station"?

Morioka Station
Located on the first floor of Morioka Station, Odensekan has a wide selection of souvenirs, bento boxes, side dishes, and more, making it fun just to browse.

to Wikipedia , "Ekinaka" is a common name for stores and other establishments located inside or near stations under the management of Japanese railway operators.

In the past, the term often referred to the area between the ticket gate and the platform, but recently the term "inside the station" has come to be used to refer to the station premises and station buildings directly connected to the station as well.

In this article, we also introduce station buildings directly connected to the station as "in-station" areas.

The second floor of the south exit of JR Morioka Station has been reborn after renovation work was completed.

"NEO Kaioh" and "Ki-oh" were replaced by players from "Kirin City"

After the renovation work is completed, a new restaurant of a different genre will open on the second floor of the south exit on June 27, 2025, and is becoming a hot topic in the local area.

NEO Kaiou, a seafood bar in the station

 NEO Kaioh
NEO Kaioh is suitable for large parties

Kaioh with its main store in Uchimaru in the city , is an izakaya where you can enjoy fresh seafood at reasonable prices, but this new store is also popular for its great value lunches and can accommodate large banquets in the evenings.

Chicken King
In addition to fried chicken, Toriou also offers takeout pizza, minced meat cutlets, fried horse mackerel, and rice.

Also, next door, the take-out-only " Take-out Fried Chicken and Pizza Specialty Store Torio Morioka Station Branch " opened at the same time, and this is also a branch of Kaiou.

I tried drinking at NEO Kaioh, a seafood bar inside the station!

NEO Kaioh
The counter is located right at the entrance

The layout of the kitchen inside the store is the same as Kirin City, but the atmosphere is completely different.

NEO Kaioh
There are also table seats inside the restaurant where you can enjoy the view of Morioka Station.

There are tables for four and two, and you can order from the menu that appears when you scan the QR code on the table with your smartphone.

NEO Kaioh
QR code for ordering, easy to use and understand

Even if you don't have a smartphone or don't know how to use it, you can order directly by asking a member of staff, so you don't have to worry.

NEO Kaioh
The seafood bowl is topped with a variety of sashimi, including tuna, shrimp, and flounder, making it excellent value for money!

All of the seafood dishes were great value for money, and the seafood bowl was 1,500 yen and came with a generous amount of fresh sashimi, as shown in the photo.

NEO Kaioh
This is also a Yukhoe dish with plenty of tuna.

The 500 yen tuna yukke was filled with plenty of high-quality red tuna meat and was very satisfying to eat, but what I would most recommend is the stewed offal.

NEO Kaioh
Motsu stew filled with large chunks of tenderly stewed motsu

The price of 700 yen was unusually high for stewed offal, so I was curious to try it out and ordered it, but when it came out I was surprised by the amount and size of the stewed offal.

The offal is well prepared and not oily, but soft, and this dish alone is enough as a snack to go with your evening drinks.

NEO Kaioh
Toriou's fried chicken is well seasoned. This is the "garlic soy sauce flavor."

You can also order fried chicken from the neighboring restaurant, Toriou, as an appetizer, so be sure to give it a try if you drop by.
