With the cherry blossom season over, spring in Miyagi is finally in full swing.
It's now the season when you can enjoy a variety of colorful flowers in parks and botanical gardens throughout the prefecture.

June, in particular, is the perfect time to see vibrant flowers like roses and hydrangeas, which are sure to lift your spirits.
It's an ideal month to go out with family or your loved one!
So, in this article, we'll introduce some of the flower events that will grace Miyagi in June!

Yakurai Garden Rose & Herb Fair

When it comes to flowers that represent June in Miyagi Prefecture, it's roses.
Blooming in vibrant colors throughout the month, roses captivate the hearts of all who see them.
If you want to enjoy roses and herbs to your heart's content, Yakurai Garden is highly recommended.

The Rose & Herb Fair will be held from June 3rd to July 2nd, 2023

Yakurai Garden will be holding a Rose & Herb Fair from June 3rd to July 2nd.
In the 15-hectare flower garden at the foot of Mt. Yakurai, you can see 6,000 rose bushes of 350 varieties, and it seems to be the best time of year to see them.

Rose seedlings will also be on sale during the period, with around 40 varieties of roses available for purchase directly from the gardeners on weekends

The garden has eight themed gardens, including the Rose Garden, Herb Garden, and Fururu no Oka, and delights us with the various colors of the seasons. In June, roses and herbs are in full bloom, but in July, lavender is in full bloom

Taga Castle Ruins Iris Festival

The Tagajo Ruins, a national special historic site, hosts an iris festival every year.
This traditional event will be celebrating its 33rd year in 2023.
On its 21,000 square meter grounds, 3 million irises of 800 varieties, as well as Japanese irises and Siberian irises, await your visit.

Every year on weekends, stage events such as a "Yukata Contest" are held to liven up the flowering season.
Outdoor tea ceremonies, pressed flower art, and paper cutting workshops are also worth checking out.
In particular, try on a traditional Manyo-era costume – there are very few facilities where you can experience this, so be sure to give it a go!

And above all, I highly recommend the light-up event held from June 21st to 23rd.
For these three days only, the flowers at the venue will be lit up from 7 PM to 9 PM.
The beautifully illuminated flower garden at night is sure to be Instagram-worthy!

Ogatsu Rose Factory Garden Rose Fun Party

The Ogatsu Rose Factory Garden, a reconstruction project launched by the people of Ogatsu town, which was devastated by the tsunami, will be holding a rose viewing event again this year!
