table of contents
We ride trains every day without really thinking about it. However, each train has its own unique characteristics, and when you look into them, you will find that they are very deep. So, this time we will introduce some train spots you can enjoy in Tokyo
We've picked out some stylish spots as well as places where you can learn about the history of railways, so be sure to check them out
Subway Museum (Edogawa Ward)
The Subway Museum in Edogawa Ward is, as its name suggests, a museum that focuses on the subway
Inside the museum, there are exhibits of trains that actually ran on the subway, so you're sure to get a real feel for the experience! In addition to the area where you can learn about the history of the subway, there is also a general command experience space where you can learn about tunnel excavation techniques and safety measures during operation, and there are various areas that will answer any questions even for railway novices
Railway museums often have simulators installed, and of course this museum has one too, where you can experience driving the Chiyoda Line, Ginza Line, Yurakucho Line, and Tozai Line. Not only can you operate it from an actual driver's seat, but the vibrations that a driver would experience are also faithfully reproduced, so be sure to give it a try
There are plenty of other attractions, including a quiz corner where you can test your subway knowledge, and a "Metro Panorama" where you can see a model train actually running!

Tobu Museum (Sumida Ward)
At the Tobu Museum, operated by Tobu Railway in Sumida Ward, you can get up close and personal with a steam locomotive that has been restored to its original appearance when it was in operation, as well as the wooden train that was used when the line between Asakusa and Nishiarai was electrified during the Taisho era
Of course, the museum also has simulators, but in addition to the 50050 series simulator, there is also a bus simulator available. It's a full-scale simulator that displays a score after you finish driving, so if you're confident in your driving skills, be sure to give it a try
Another place worth checking out is the "Watching Promenade" located under the platform at Higashi-Mukojima Station, the closest station to the museum. From here, you can observe the trains parked at Higashi-Mukojima Station from the height of the tracks. It's fun to see your favorite trains from an angle you can't normally see!
