Ishinomori Manga Museum

[Miyagi] Cyborg 009 as Kamen Rider! "Ishinomori Mangakan" where you can experience the world of manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori

Ishinomori Mangakan is a museum located in Ishinomaki City that exhibits the works of Shotaro Ishinomori, a manga artist from Miyagi Prefecture.

Ishinomori Manga Museum is the only place in Japan where you can experience the world of the man who created many masterpieces such as Kamen Rider and Cyborg 009 and was called the "King of Manga"!

This time, I would like to take a closer look at the charm of Ishinomori Manga Museum.

Introduction to Ishinomori Manga Museum

Ishinomori Manga Museum is divided into three sections: 1st floor, 2nd floor, and 3rd floor.

First of all, you can enjoy the goods shop ``Bokujiru Ichidoku'' and the video hall on the first floor. When you enter the building after shaking hands with Professor Ishinomori's full-sized hand in front of the main entrance, Cyborg 003, the receptionist wearing a costume, will be waiting for you.

You can already feel the feeling of entering the Ishinomori world! There is a goods shop next to the reception desk, but I'd like to stop by first. Let's save it for fun after enjoying the whole place!

The video hall, which is the only paid zone on the first floor, screens anime works such as ``Ryujinuma'' and ``The Disappearance of Little Red Riding Hood,'' as well as an original movie about Ishinomaki's hero ``Sea Jetter Kaito.'' Also pay attention to the theme song sung by anime song singer Masaaki Endo, who is also a tourism ambassador from Ishinomaki!

The second floor is the main permanent exhibition zone.

In the permanent exhibition room, the world of masterpieces such as Cyborg 009 and Kamen Rider is recreated. Personally, I'm glad that there was a corner for Sabu and Ichi Torimono. The biggest feature of Ishinomori Mangakan is that it can be enjoyed not only by children but also by adults!

There is also a special exhibition room near the entrance to the permanent exhibition. An exhibition of original drawings by manga artists and animators other than Shotaro Ishinomori's works will be held for a limited time, so be sure to check it out when you visit!

On the third floor, you can learn how to create manga and anime for free. At the animation production experience corner, you can experience being an animator by making your own drawings move. It takes time to draw each image one by one, but it's really moving when you see the animation move as much as you put your thoughts into it! Record a video with your smartphone and show it off to your family and friends!

Additionally, the library offers weekly manga creation experiences. You can try your hand at making your own manga can badges and keychains for just 100 yen, so be sure to give it a try to commemorate your visit.

If you're hungry, enjoy a meal at the observation cafe BLUE ZONE on the same floor. While enjoying Mt. Hiyori and the flow of the Kitakami River, you can enjoy dishes such as pasta inspired by Gorenger!

The Great East Japan Earthquake and Mangakan

Ishinomori Manga Museum is home to two of Japan's three major heroes, Kamen Rider and Sentai Hero. It was during the Great East Japan Earthquake that Mangakan became a true hero.

March 11, 2011.

After the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred, many visitors were immediately evacuated, the museum was temporarily closed, and staff were also evacuated, so miraculously there were no casualties from the tsunami. He was a true hero as he continued to protect the safety of the evacuated citizens for about five days. I think the children were very reassuring during the five days they spent with the riders.

One year and eight months after the earthquake, Mangakan was revived in response to voices of encouragement from all over the country and still watches over the city of Ishinomaki as a symbol of recovery!
