Yakushi Festival Plant Market (Yamagata Prefecture)

Every year from May 8th to 10th , the Yakushi Festival Plant Market is held around Yakushi Park in Yakushi-cho, Yamagata City, Yamagata Prefecture

It is said to have originated when Yoshiaki Mogami, the 11th head of the Mogami clan and the first lord of the Yamagata Domain, called upon the residents to restore greenery to the castle town that had been destroyed by a great fire. This historical event has continued for over 400 years and is considered one of Japan's three major plant markets, along with those in Kumamoto and Osaka
