Morioka Station , located on Morioka Ekimae-dori in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture , opened on November 1, 1890 (Meiji 23)

As of 2026, the station is served by the Tohoku Shinkansen, as well as the Tohoku Main Line, Tazawako Line, Yamada Line, and Iwate Galaxy Railway Line (IGR Iwate Galaxy Railway)

The day Shin-Aomori Station opened (Aomori Prefecture)

Shin-Aomori Station was established on November 1, 1986 (Showa 61) , prior to the extension plan for the Tohoku Shinkansen

However, due to the deterioration of the Japanese National Railways' business at the time, it was decided to postpone the construction of the Tohoku Shinkansen line (Morioka City - Aomori City) for the time being. The Shin-Aomori Station that was established was a small, unmanned station with a single platform and one track that served only as an intermediate station on the Ou Main Line

Twenty-four years later,December 4, 2010 (Heisei 22),the Tohoku Shinkansen line was finally extended and opened between Hachinohe Station and Shin-Aomori Station. In conjunction with the opening of the Shinkansen, Shin-Aomori Station also underwent construction of a new station building and development of the area in front of the station, transforming it into the gateway to the Shinkansen for Aomori City.
