Heading north, I discovered an interesting pastry shop along Prefectural Route 129.

If you head a little north and come to Prefectural Route 129, you will come to an area lined with many shops on both sides.

The famous ramen restaurant "Men-dokoro Wakamusha Main Store" is also located in this area.

Patisserie Le Connaissance

Right next to Wakamusha, you can see some intriguing banners saying things like "crepes" and "waffles."

Thisthe patisserie "Patisserie Le Connaissance." Looking through the large window, the interior looks just like a cafe abroad. Drawn in, I entered the shop and found a colorful array of baked goods and fresh pastries. I imagine many people buy the cookies in tins that look like jewel boxes just for the packaging.

The shop has an eat-in area whereyou can enjoy cakes, crepes, croissant waffles, and other treats with drinks. When I visited, a group of students were happily munching on crepes. It seems like a great place to visit for a change of pace, or to fully enjoy your youth.

Minowamon

Ithe baked donut "Minowa-mon". The moist dough combined with the bitter chocolate creates a delicious, lingering flavor. The fact that the dough wasn't greasy also made it easy to eat.

Don't miss the long-established Japanese confectionery shop along Prefectural Route 129

Hinatsu
Confectionery Shop Hinatsu

If you walk west along Prefectural Route 129, you will come across an area packed with long-established Japanese confectionery shops. This time, I stopped by two of them.

The first shop we'll visit is"Okashidokoro Hinatsu." This is a renowned shop that has produced many hit sweets, including Nihonmatsu Yokan. The shop has a bright and friendly atmosphere. The spacious display window is filled with tempting sweets. You can enjoy shopping while being soothed by the warm service of the staff.

Senshintei
Senshintei Ohuku

one of their signature sweetspurchased "Senshintei's Ofuku,". It's a monaka (wafer filled with bean paste), and comes in two variations: white bean paste made from Ofuku beans and red bean paste. Ofuku beans are large white kidney beans. They are characterized by their pure white color and soft texture. Senshintei is said to use plenty of high-quality Ofuku beans.

With the first bite, you'll be surprised by the delicate texture of the monaka, like layers of thin silk. Inside, there's plenty of white bean paste. The white bean paste, which fills every corner, is sticky yet melts in your mouth, and the plump sweetness of the broad beans spreads smoothly. It's satisfying yet never gets tiresome. It's a flavor that would be perfect with a strong cup of tea.

The shop also sold discounted portions of castellacake intended for gifts, making them perfect for home consumption. Finding such unexpected bargains is a privilege only those who visit the shop in person can enjoy.

Even the Tama Yokan jelly comes in a variety of flavors and shapes other than the standard, making shopping a visual feast. There is also a wide selection of fresh sweets, and the lineup evokes the Japanese spirit of enjoying the seasons through food.

Shiho Kanman
Shiho Kanman

traditional Japanese"Shiogama,"I boughtsweet made with shiso leaves.

The origins of this confection go back over 300 years. It is said to have been developed after the Niwa clan, lords of the Nihonmatsu domain, ordered them to "make something that can surpass the famous Shiogama confection of the Date domain (Sendai)." Shihokanman is a dried confectionery that is soft and has a simple yet elegant taste. You will feel the romance of history in this confectionery that has been passed down just as it was back then.

Homemade salted squid is also one of their specialties, and a banner proudly fluttering in the wind advertises it.

The deep-fried foods are particularly eye-catching in the store. The deep-fried food section is filled with items that will make you want to reach out and try them, such as large fried horse mackerel and thick minced meat cutlets.
