Once you arrive at Sendai Station, rent a car and head to Togatta Onsen!

Roadside Station “Murata” and “Mori no Mebuki Tamagosha Farm Factory”

From Sendai Station, go south on Prefectural Route 31 via National Route 48, and after about 40 minutes you will arrive at the roadside station Murata.

The Murata Town Historical Museum is located at the roadside station in Murata Town, a little Kyoto in Michinoku Miyagi.
The permanent exhibition room exhibits a large amount of materials related to the ``Old Kaido no Kura Street'', which was the first in Miyagi Prefecture to be designated as a group of nationally important traditional buildings.
You'll definitely want to take your time and enjoy the huge amount of exhibits that you wouldn't think are free!

For lunch, we definitely recommend Morino Mebuki Tamagosha Farm Factory, which opened next to the roadside station in the summer of 2016!

Miyagi Zao Kokeshi Museum

Miyagi Prefecture is also a kokeshi doll prefecture.
There are five types of Kokeshi dolls in the prefecture: Naruko, Sakunami, Yajiro, Hijiori, and Togatta, and each has different characteristics.
Taking your time to enjoy these kokeshi dolls is essential to fully enjoy Togatta!

The Miyagi Zao Kokeshi Museum displays a large variety of kokeshi dolls from the prefecture and surrounding prefectures.
Kokeshi dolls that you have never seen before are waiting for you, from stylish kokeshi dolls to zungurimukku dolls and ones without patterns.

There is also a corner where you can try painting kokeshi dolls.
Even if it's your first time, you can easily do it because the craftsmen kindly supported you!

God's hot spring

The hot spring town of Togatta is also a town for eating out.
Food walking tickets are sold for 600 yen, so you can enjoy fried foods and soft-serve ice cream while walking around town!
If you get tired of walking, take a break at Kami no Yu's footbath.

The heat of the spacious footbath changes gradually from upstream.
Togatta Onsen is famous for its hot water, but it may be too hot if you go too far upstream.
It is best to gradually get used to it starting from the lowest point.
Of course, the main feature of Kami no Yu is the large public bath, so if you're on a day trip, be sure to enjoy a full body bath!
