On December 24, 1600 (November 19, 5th year of the Keicho era) , Date Masamune, the first lord of the Sendai domain, changed the place name from "Chiyo" "Sendai," and thus the place name "Sendai" was born.

Incidentally, the name "Sendai" itself has been around for quite some time, and it is said that the kanji characters used to write it evolved from "Sentai" to "Chiyo" to "Sendai (Sendai)."
