Akita Prefecture "Prefectural Anniversary"

On August 29, 1871 (July 14, 1871), with the abolition of feudal domains and the establishment of prefectures, Akita Prefecture, Honjo Prefecture, Iwasaki Prefecture, Kameda Prefecture, and Yajima Prefecture were established, and the first Akita Prefecture was born.

Later, in December 1871 (November 1871), following the first merger of prefectures, the second Akita Prefecture was established by combining the above five prefectures with Kazuno County and the former Nikaho territory, and the current boundaries of Akita Prefecture were finalized in April 1872 (February 1872)

established the "Prefectural Memorial Day" to commemorate August 29th the prefecture was first founded
