Yoshitsune Memorial (Iwate Prefecture)

On the 30th day of the intercalary fourth month of Bunji 5 (around mid-June in the Gregorian calendar), Minamoto no Yoshitsune was cornered by Fujiwara no Yasuhira (the fourth head of the Oshu Fujiwara clan), who had accepted a request from his half-brother Minamoto no Yoritomo to hunt down and kill Yoshitsune . He committed suicide at the Koromogawa Mansion in Hiraizumi, Oshu, at the young age of 31, along with his wife and children. This day is known as "Yoshitsune Memorial Day" and is a seasonal word in haiku poetry for early summer.

Every year from May 1st to 5th, the "Spring Fujiwara Festival" is held in Hiraizumi Town, Nishiiwai District, Iwate Prefecture, and the "Minamoto no Yoshitsune's Journey to the East Procession" takes place, which recreates the scene when Yoshitsune and his retainers escaped pursuit by his brother Minamoto no Yoritomo and arrived in Hiraizumi, where they were welcomed by Fujiwara no Hidehira
