Cycling is a great way to do this. Miyagi Prefecture has many cycling courses that are perfect for changing your mood. This time, we will introduce courses divided into three categories: for beginners, intermediate riders, and families


Beginner's cycling course

First, we will introduce cycling courses for beginners. There are many flat roads, so it is recommended even for people who are not very good at exercise!

Sendai-Watari Bicycle Path Course

The Sendai-Watari Cycling Path is a 43km bicycle and pedestrian-only road that connects Iwakiri in Miyagino Ward, Sendai City to Watari and was repaved and reopened in 2019. The flat course runs along the coast, and on sunny days you can ride under the blue sky and feel the sea breeze

Higashi Matsushima Course

Higashi Matsushima, a popular tourist destination known for its fresh seafood and beautiful scenery, also offers an exhilarating cycling experience. The recommended route is "Nobiru Station - Nobiru Coast - Nobiru Station." This route allows you to enjoy the magnificent seaside scenery, and if you go at dusk, you can especially see the glowing orange sunset

There are also five bicycle rental shops in Higashimatsushima city, so even if you don't have a road bike, you can go for a ride nearby by train or car and enjoy cycling

Prefectural Forest Course

The Prefectural Forest is a forest that spans the cities of Sendai, Tomiya, and Rifu. The highest point is about 140m above sea level, and there are long slopes with a gradient of 4-5% and steep slopes with a gradient of nearly 10%, making it a cycling course with many ups and downs

It is characterized by the absence of traffic lights and wide roads, making it a great choice for those who want to practice road biking, as well as those who want to take a leisurely ride while enjoying the rich natural surroundings

Depending on the route, you can also take a break and see the ruins of Iwakiri Castle and Aoma Shrine, or enjoy forest bathing while walking through the athletic park

Akiu Onsen sightseeing course

Akiu Onsen, a famous hot spring spot in Miyagi Prefecture, is a beautiful natural area with trees and rivers, and the course has a relatively gentle gradient, making it a pleasant place to enjoy cycling

It's a reasonable 200 yen per hour, and you can rent a strider, helmet, knee and elbow protectors, and gloves, so you can enjoy it even if you don't have any equipment

Mukaiyama Central Park

Mukaiyama Central Park is located in a residential area of ​​Mukaiyama, Taihaku Ward, Sendai City, and covers an area of ​​approximately 6 hectares. The park has a paved cycling course around the perimeter, making it a great place for practicing cycling or for family cycling trips
