Mt. Yakurai is a small independent peak located northeast of Mt. Funagata, which has a wide base. Surrounded by the Osaki Plain, which is filled with rice fields and fields, you can admire its handsome appearance even from Furukawa.

Many legends have been told about Mt. Yakurai since ancient times. One of the most unique stories is the story of Sakanoue Tamuramaro, a character we often learn about in history textbooks.

During the Heian period, Sakanoue Tamuramaro, the Great Shogun who was on an expedition to the Tohoku region, shot a large arrow over 2 meters long from Mt. Mugoku in Wakudani. I sent my men to look for it, but after searching for three days and nights, I couldn't find it.

``The reason you can't find arrows that big is because the mountain ate them .'' That's why this mountain was named ``Yakurai-san.''

Everything about the 2m long arrow and the conclusion that the arrow was eaten by the mountain as a result of it coming from Wakudani is absurd, but that's probably why it has been passed down as an anecdote to this day.
