Mount Yakurai is a small, independent peak located northeast of Mount Funagata, which has a wide base. Its beautiful shape can be seen even from Furukawa, as it is surrounded by the Osaki Plain, which is covered with rice paddies and farmland
Mount Yakurai has been the site of many legends since ancient times, and one of the most unique is the story of Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, who is also taught in history textbooks
During the Heian period, Shogun Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, who was on an expedition to the Tohoku region, shot a huge arrow measuring over 2 meters from Mt. Yodogawa in Wakuya. He sent his subordinates to search for it, but they were unable to find it after three days and three nights of searching
"The reason we can't find such a big arrow is because the mountain has eaten it." That is why this mountain was named "Yakurai-san" (Yarakurai Mountain)
The 2m arrow, the fact that it arrived from Wakui, and the conclusion that the mountain was hit by the arrow are all absurd, but that is perhaps why the story has been passed down to the present day

One spot you especially can't miss is Fururu Hill, home to one of the largest flower fields in the Tohoku region. The best time to see the flowers is mid-May or the end of August, and the sight of the beautiful flowers stretching as far as the eye can see will leave you gasping in amazement!
