[Akiu Onsen] Footbath spot

Akiu Onsenkyo, also known as Sendai's inner parlor, is one of the most famous hot springs in Tohoku. It has long been a bathing area for the feudal lord, the Date family, and is considered one of the three famous hot springs in Oshu. It is also one of the three major hot springs in Japan, along with Arima in Hyogo Prefecture and Dogo in Ehime Prefecture, and is also a royal hot spring for the Imperial Family.

It has a long history as a hot spring resort, with the hot springs said to have opened over 1400 years ago. It is said that it was given the title of ``Natori no Onsen'' because it healed the illness of the 29th Emperor Kinmei.

It is easily accessible, taking about 30 minutes by car from downtown Sendai. However, once you visit, it is a charming hot spring resort with a panoramic view of the rich nature along the Natori River valley.

Day-trip hot springs are also popular, so why not visit them along with a footbath?

[Sakunami Onsen] Footbath spot

Approximately 40 minutes by car from downtown Sendai. Sakunami Onsen, which spreads upstream of the Hirose River, has been passed down as a hidden hot spring for the Sendai feudal lords.

There are two legends regarding the discovery of Sakunami Onsen: one says that it was discovered by a high priest during the Nara period, and the other says that Minamoto no Yoritomo discovered it during the Kamakura period.

Sakunami Onsen, which was only known to a few people, opened as a hot spring resort in 1796. It is said that it took eight years to open the path, build the stairs that descend to the valley floor, and complete the hot water pot.

Sakunami Onsen is characterized by its soft spring quality that is gentle on the skin and the abundant amount of hot water. It has become a popular hot spring visited by many people as it is said to be a source of beauty.

There is also a Nikka Whiskey Sendai factory near Sakunami Onsen, and you can sample it on a free tour.

A footbath where you can enjoy hypotonic, weakly alkaline simple spring water.

As expected from a town with a Nikka whiskey brewery, the natural hot spring water is poured from barrels. You can enjoy it for free, but the nice thing about it is that it has a feeling of cleanliness because it has a large amount of hot water flowing over it.

Please note that there is no temperature adjustment, so the temperature will change depending on the climate.

[Naruko Onsen] Footbath spot

Naruko Onsen, located in the northern part of the prefecture, is a hot spring village where you can enjoy nearly 400 sources and 9 different types of spring water. Many inns have their own hot springs on their premises. It has long been known as a hot spring resort in Tohoku, and is considered one of the three famous hot springs in Oshu, along with Akiu Onsen.

The hot springs were discovered in 837 when a volcanic explosion spouted hot water, and many people have visited since then. There are also famous historical sites associated with Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Matsuo Basho.

There are also plenty of natural attractions, such as geysers and Shiraito Falls. You can also enjoy traditional crafts such as Naruko Kokeshi dolls and Naruko lacquerware.

Hot water is drawn directly from the Shimo-Jigoku source through a gutter. It's right next to the Naruko Onsen Yumeguri parking lot, so you can easily stop by when you're tired of driving.

There is also a hot spring egg workshop nearby where you can make your own hot spring eggs. So, I recommend taking a break while waiting while making hot spring eggs.

There are various hot spring facilities and shopping streets in the surrounding area, so it would be a good idea to visit them as well.
