Mount Hakkoda, one of Japan's 100 famous mountains

Mount Hakkoda is a collective name for several volcanoes located south of Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture, and is counted among Japan's 100 Famous Mountains.
There is no single mountain called Mount Hakkoda; rather, the term "Mount Hakkoda" or "Hakkoda Mountain Range" refers to a group of 18 mountains, with Mount Odake (elevation: 1584m) as its main peak.

From fresh greenery to vibrant autumn leaves, you can fully enjoy the changing scenery and magnificent nature of the seasons. The area is also dotted with numerous wetlands and is a treasure trove of various alpine plants, making it a popular destination for hikers from spring to autumn.
In winter, it's a bustling ski resort, where you can enjoy some of the most spectacular frost-covered trees in Japan, thanks to the heavy snowfall and seasonal winds.
The Hakkoda Ropeway runs along Mount Tamoyachi (elevation: 1324m), offering panoramic views of the majestic Hakkoda mountain range, as well as Aomori city, Mutsu Bay, the Tsugaru Peninsula, and the lower Shimokita Peninsula.

Furthermore, a walking trail called the Hakkoda God Line is maintained starting from the top station of the Hakkoda Ropeway, allowing for easy strolls with simple equipment such as sneakers. The God Line has two courses: a 1.0km course that takes about 30 minutes to walk, and a 1.8km course that takes about 60 minutes. On both courses, you can see wetlands scattered everywhere and various alpine plants.
Observation decks are provided at various points along the course, and the slopes are not steep, so it is also possible to enjoy trekking with family, including children.
Another popular option is to extend your hike from the God Line to Mt. Akakura, Mt. Ido, and the main peak, Mt. Odake, and descend to Sukayu Onsen.
However, since it is a heavy snowfall area, snow remains until around June, and there are many wetlands and muddy areas, so caution is necessary.

You can get to the Hakkoda Ropeway station by bus from Aomori Station, but National Route 103, which connects Aomori City and Lake Towada, is a driving route where you can enjoy the scenery of all four seasons, so we also recommend driving around the famous spots in your own car or a rental car
