Ogata Village is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Crowdfunding is currently underway for a commemorative project! [Akita Prefecture]
Ogata Village in Minamiakita District, Akita Prefecture, is located midway between Akita City and Noshiro City. It is a municipality that was created by reclaiming Lake Hachirogata, which was originally the second largest lake in Japan after Lake Biwa
This year marks the 60th anniversary of Ogata Village's founding, and the village is currently accepting donations for crowdfunding to carry out commemorative projects
The reclamation of Lake Hachirogata and the birth of Ogata Village
Originally, Lake Hachirogata was the second largest lake in Japan, boasting an area of approximately 220 square kilometers. Although it was only 4 to 5 meters deep, it was a brackish lake that provided many marine resources, including smelt, icefish, and gobies

However, in 1957, a national project called the National Land Reclamation Project began, and Lake Hachirogata was reclaimed and turned into a vast agricultural area. Over the course of about eight years, the land that was once the bottom of the lake was transformed into a lush rural landscape, and in 1964, Ogata Village was born
If you check Ogata Village on Google Maps, you can see the outline of the area where Lake Hachirogata was located, as if a large lake had been covered with land
