The only existing building that remains traces of the Boshin War, "Former Takizawa Honjin" [Fukushima Prefecture]

The former Takizawa Honjin (also known as the Yokoyama Family Residence) is located approximately 3 km northeast of Tsuruga Castle, along the former Shirakawa Kaido road near the entrance to Takizawa Pass, which runs from Aizu-Wakamatsu through Shirakawa to Edo. It is said to be the oldest private residence in the Tohoku region.

The Aizu Domain School, Nisshinkan, was built adjacent to Aizu-Wakamatsu Castle in 1803 and opened as a domain school for the Aizu Domain. It was one of the largest domain schools in Japan and was said to be one of the leading educational institutions in Aizu.
