Rikugien is the ultimate daimyo garden that depicts the beauty of ``Kokin Wakashu.''
Rikugien Garden in Komagome was the site of the secondary residence of Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu, who was a chamberlain to Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, the fifth shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, and enjoyed great influence. The garden, which still stands today, is a reference to the Japanese style of Kishu, as described in Ki no Tsurayuki's "Kokin Wakashū" (Collection of Ancient and Modern Poetry).
